Job Description :
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Supports the Research Investigators by providing quality, daily husbandry, enrichment, veterinary care, and upkeep of the facility.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide support for the daily operations of the animal facility including animal husbandry, enrichment, environmental surveillance, and cleaning/sanitizing caging and housing. (40%)
Cleaning and disinfecting areas within the facility according to standard operating procedures and regulations. (20%)
Performing and documenting veterinary technical procedures independently and under the direction of the Preclinical Health Manager and/or Veterinarian. (10%)
Veterinary health assistance includes, but not limited to:
Daily monitoring and documentation of animal health
Administering medications and treatments to animals
Restraint of animals
Maintaining facility equipment and reporting problems. (10%)
Using and monitoring sanitation equipment such as cage washer and autoclave. (15%)
Support Researchers as needed (5%)
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
- Graduate of a Veterinary Technician or Assistant program
- 1 year of veterinary experience
- Knowledge of standard animal husbandry equipment operation
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Preferred
- Animal health technician licensure
- American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification
- Bachelor's degree in animal science or related field
- Basic computer knowledge
- Knowledge of animal welfare policy and regulations
