Husbandry Assistant (LTE) - NEW Zoo

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Cleans and sanitizes animal exhibits, prepares dietsfor a wide variety of species, monitors feed inventories, maintainsclean and orderly kitchen, feed storage areas, and animal hospitalfacilities. This position will also provide opportunities for learninghusbandry techniques and gaining animal handling experience. EssentialDuties Prepares zoo diets for zoological specimens. Inspects and cleansfood storage, food preparation area, and animal exhibits to insure safeand sanitary conditions for both public and collection specimens.Maintains records and observations on collection and reports routinelyto manager on status of individual animals. Performs general andpreventative maintenance work on zoo grounds and facilities to includelandscaping, cleaning, mowing, painting, and minor construction. Assistsin training and direction of assigned volunteers. Assists in enforcementof park ordinances and public safety. Performs related functions asassigned. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimalworking knowledge of building and grounds maintenance. Minimal workingknowledge of animal husbandry. Minimal knowledge of horticultural andlandscaping methods. Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer andthe require software (ZIMS, ISIS programs). Ability to perform heavymanual labor. Ability to operate trucks and power equipment. Ability tofollow detailed instructions. Ability to communicate effectively bothorally and in writing. Ability to answer inquiries and complaintseffectively with tact and courtesy. Ability to maintain effectiveworking relationships with staff and the public.
