Job Description Summary:

The Animal Health Technologist provides essential veterinary care to laboratory animals under the supervision of an Animal Resources Veterinarian. The role involves monitoring animal health, administering treatments, collecting specimens for diagnostic analysis, and ensuring compliance with animal welfare regulations.

Contract length: 1 year

Pay rate: $30/ hr.

Location: Fairfield County, CT

Responsibilities:

Provide veterinary health care services to laboratory animal populations under the direct supervision of an Animal Resources Veterinarian or Senior Animal Health Technologist.

Assist in the preventive medicine program, including conducting physical examinations, administering vaccinations, implementing disease control and health surveillance protocols, and performing dental prophylaxis.

Support environmental enrichment programs to enhance the well-being of all species.

Assist in maintaining and operating the aseptic surgical suite, providing pre-, peri-, and post-operative care to surgical patients.

Manage induction and maintenance of anesthesia, administer pain management, fluids, antibiotics, and assist in wound management for surgical patients.

Participate in large and small animal health rounds, communicating abnormalities and concerns to the Animal Resources Veterinarian.

Collect diagnostic specimens and submit samples for analysis to the diagnostic laboratory.

Administer basic veterinary medical treatments under the guidance of the Animal Resources Veterinarian.

Qualifications:

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Animal Health Technology (or an equivalent program with at least one year of practical veterinary experience).

AALAS certification is desirable.

Ability to triage clinical cases and veterinary emergencies.

Proficiency in identifying abnormal clinical presentations across various laboratory animal species.

Skilled in calculating and administering medications by various routes.

Experience operating basic veterinary diagnostic equipment.

Knowledge of animal welfare regulations.

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Proficient in MS applications and medical terminology.
