Horizon Veterinary Specialists is a privately owned and rapidly growing, fast-paced emergency and specialty hospital located in beautiful Ventura, California. Horizon was founded in August of 2018 by five board certified veterinarians who want to inspire positive change in the veterinary community for their patients and for all the incredible professionals who dedicate themselves to veterinary medicine.
With a state-of-the-art facility and a focus on positive, inclusive, and educational culture, the Horizon Partners have built a team of kind-hearted, dedicated, and motivated professionals to serve each other, our patients, and the community members of beautiful Ventura, Santa Barbara and surrounding counties.
Horizon’s emergency and critical care team provides services 24/7 to small animal patients of Ventura and the surrounding counties. Our emergency department supports walk-in emergencies as well as referrals from the primary veterinarian community. We have a large, fully equipped, multi-unit ICU with a separate rooms for isolation, oh and a room just for cats!
Our hospital does more than just emergency medicine! We also have an internal medicine
department with three affable and brilliant, board-certified veterinary Internists.
With their collective experience of 52 years, our internal medicine veterinarians are a great, supportive resource for our emergency department, the veterinary community and of course the pets in Ventura and surrounding counties.
Our veterinary support team consists of a variety of administrative professionals, customer service representatives, doctor’s assistants, pharmacy technicians, registered veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants from all different backgrounds and skill levels. Our hospital is focused on the training and development of veterinary professionals and those aspiring to become veterinary professionals. Every team member at Horizon contributes to the excellent care we are able to provide to those patients who come to us in need.

I owe the life of my pup to Horizon. We came running into the lobby with my dog coughing up blood and they handled everything like true professionals and saved his life. Outside of dramatic TV shows, I have never seen a hospital setting go from silence to full emergency mode in such a short amount of time… I think that might say a lot more about our human facilities than anything else.. but I digress.
I genuinely believe that, if not for the fast and professional actions taken by the super star veterinarians at Horizon, I would not have my wonderful little road dog with me today. I can’t sing their praises enough.
It wasn’t just the fact that they burst into action and began doing their jobs, but you could see the concern, determination, and desire to help my little guy. My 6 year old pug Daisy was bitten by a baby rattler twice in the face and once in the paw several days ago. I called ahead as I raced down the freeway and they met me in the lobby -awaiting her arrival.
At that time, she was limp and taking her last breaths. She was promptly resuscitated, given antivenom , IV fluids and was observed for complications for about 25 hours. Thanks to the incredible and swift care provided by some of the most caring people I have ever met - SHE SURVIVED!!!!!
Not only did they provide excellent care of Daisy, they showed compassion and concern for me as her mom/owner as I was falling apart having witnessed her agony.
All three vets that treated her - Dr's Anderson, Krantz, and Mallon were communicative (calling with updates on her condition), compassionate and skilled experts in emergency/critical care. Her nurse Angel on the overnight was outstanding and caring as was Victoria in the reception area.
I am so grateful to everyone at Horizon - I have my little girl back who continues to improve each day. I've had many veterinary emergencies both dogs and horses. My experience with emergency care at Horizon was top notch with the best possible outcome.
