Allegheny Veterinary Service (AVS) in Elkins, West Virginia is a privately owned, premier facility complete with a pristine, well-equipped small animal and equine hospital located in the mountains of West Virginia. The staff and attending veterinarians at AVS foster an environment of continuous learning. Our mission is to provide previously unattainable state-of-the-art point-of-care veterinary medical services and serve as a secondary referral center for the northern half of West Virginia. Our current salary packages are equal to $107,000 - $191,000 in nearby Washington, DC. Emergency service is offered to our regular clients with shared rotation. Doctors are well compensated for emergencies. Safety and mental health of our staff are a priority. Our Doctors are trusted with autonomy assessing if the call is a true emergency and needs to be seen immediately or if the call should be managed during business hours. Emergencies average approximately two calls per week and 1 call per weekend average. Emergency farm calls are only offered for very nearby well-established clients. All others must haul-in unless you want to see the emergency and help build your clientele. We are blessed with tenured staff and we work hard to keep them. We have established excellent training programs and hospital protocols for both the large animal and small animal staff. All staff members have required continuing education.
