Laboratory and Research Jobs in North Carolina

A Laboratory and Research specialist in the veterinary industry plays a significant role in advancing animal health and welfare. They conduct various types of scientific research related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in animals. This can involve analyzing laboratory samples, conducting experiments, and developing new veterinary technologies or pharmaceuticals. These professionals also monitor animal populations for the spread of diseases that could potentially transfer to humans, known as zoonotic diseases. They play an integral role in public health by researching and implementing methods to prevent outbreaks.

To be a successful Laboratory and Research specialist, a strong knowledge base in biology, chemistry, and animal science is essential. They should also possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Depending on the level of research, a Bachelor's degree in a related field is often required, but advanced positions may require a Masters or Doctorate in Veterinary Science. Certifications such as Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) could be beneficial. Individuals might start their career path as Veterinary Technicians or Assistants, Laboratory Assistants, or Research Assistants before moving into this role.
