Veterinary Technician Jobs in Hawaii
A Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in the veterinary industry, providing essential support to veterinarians in diagnosing and treating animals with various health issues. They are responsible for performing a variety of procedures, such as drawing blood, administering medication, preparing animals and equipment for surgery, and assisting during surgical procedures. Veterinary Technicians also conduct laboratory tests and interpret the results, monitor anesthesia and recovery, and educate pet owners on pet care and health issues. They work in a range of settings, including veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, research facilities, and zoos.
Before becoming a Veterinary Technician, a person may work as a veterinary assistant, animal caretaker, or kennel attendant. To qualify as a Veterinary Technician, one must possess an associate's degree in veterinary technology from an accredited institution. Some regions require Veterinary Technicians to pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) to become licensed or certified. Additionally, they should have strong technical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, patience, and a genuine love for animals. They should also be capable of handling stressful situations and making quick decisions in emergency situations.
